And the Alley She Whitewashed in Light Blue

The International Society of Biourbanism is pleased to invite you to the screening of And the Alley She Whitewashed in Light Blue (trailer in link) by Arch. Nili Portugali and to participate in the subsequent discussion.

At a time of existential threat to the physical and human environment, the movie takes us on an intimate journey into the holy kabbalah city of Tsefat, Israel. Unfolding a discovery of universal insights from Portugali’s holistic, Buddhist, and scientific point of view, it reconstructs childhood memories engraved on each stone of the city. It searches for the secret of all timeless places in which human beings feel “at home” and the “pure art of making” that creates them.

Nili Portugali is a practicing architect, senior lecturer, researcher, published author, and film director. Her multidisciplinary work in both practice and theory is closely connected to the holistic-phenomenological school of thought. She researched with Christopher Alexander at the Center for Environmental Structure. Her first book, The Act of Creation and the Spirit of Place: A Holistic-Phenomenological Approach to Architecture, was listed among the books of the year by the Royal Institute of British Architects.
